Huntington College Golf Coach Explodes a Profanity Rant on His Team
Parental Warning-Explicit Language
After a poor team performance, Division-III golf coach Matt Mahanic of Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama unleashes a profanity-laced tirade on his team. Last Month, on the Bus ride back from an 11th place finish (12 team field) in the Gordin Classic, Head Coach Matt Mahanic tore into his team Coach Bob Knight Style minus the choking and chair throwing. This audio was recorded by one of his players on the bus ride back. At 1:55 on the recording he begins his tirade. Keep in mind that Coach Mahanic has an accomplished Division III coaching record according to his Huntingdon College Bio and he also coaches the women’s golf team.
Here is one audio highlight:
“I am ready to lose my f*cking mind. There is no f*cking helping you! F*cking no big deal. It’s not a big deal. F*cking hunky-dory!”
This audio recording is shocking and unnerving. It is also hilarious, until you realize that this poor excuse of a golf coach is yelling at actual young impressionable men.
There is no place in sport for this kind of treatment to student athletes, or in the game of golf. I feel terrible for the men and women student golfers who play for Coach Matt Mahanic.
A long time ago I played college golf and it’s a demanding college sport. It’s hard to juggle the demands of college, the practice schedule, and the travel demands of tournaments on top of the pressure of playing competitive golf. At its core, college golf is an individual sport, where individual scores are added together to make a team score. Yes, being a college golf coach is frustrating when your players are struggling. There are no time outs, or creative plays to call from a playbook. But still there is no excuse to cuss out your team in a tirade. Shame on you Coach Mahanic for treating your players as if they are less than human, shame on you for embarrassing Huntingdon College, and shame on you for disgracing the spirit and integrity of this great game. Your players deserve better.
